Weather like Melbourne’s
Goodness. It feels like it’s been a while.
There have been so many things going on in the last couple of weeks. As quickly as the weekdays have passed, the weekends have been quicker. The weekend just gone was so packed that I can barely remember the weekend before it!
Oh wait, I can. I passed my driving test so now have a MI driver’s licence (or at least, the piece of paper they issue in the interim) and then tricked my poor husband and friends into thinking I had failed the test. Sorry, guys! After my test, we walked the Dequindre Cut to Eastern Market with a Meetup group I’d found. Lunch at Eastern Market was at Vivio’s (great burger!). And that evening/night, we headed to Pig and Whiskey in Ferndale for some pork extravaganza. Despite the name of the event, I would have thought there would be a few non-alcoholic beverages available considering I’m sure we weren’t the only group with a designated driver, but alas my choices seemed to be limited to water and a really sweet non-alco punch. However, special mention to Vinsetta Garage for their deconstructed banoffee pudding. Sensational.
Sunday…? Oh, breakfast at the Original Pancake House and then … shopping! New bike, hair straightener, and kitchen appliances.
For the weekend just gone, we’d originally planned to go to Cedar Point, a rollercoaster and theme park in Ohio, about 2.5 hours from us, for my husband’s birthday. Due to a very unfavourable weather forecast, however, we changed our plans and stayed in Detroit for the day. We had dim sum and coffee with friends, and as the day wore on, it became clear that it wasn’t going to rain. In fact, it turned out to be a perfectly sunny day, and would have been ideal for a theme park! It seems the weather here is almost as unpredictable as Melbourne…
Birthday celebrations kicked on the rest of the weekend – we went (cosmic) bowling, to the Detroit Maker Faire (some good stuff, but very chaotic setup!) and then to a friend’s new house for a bbq. That’s where the rain kicked in, and did it hit hard! Power outages, fires, fallen trees, ensued and the cleanup continued yesterday. It was nuts! See here. Only the second time it’s rained heavily since we got here about 7 weeks ago, but it seems to hit with a vengence when it does.
Well, that was a pretty boring post wasn’t it? Lots of text and no photos! Whoops. The next post will be a food review – my first in Detroit – and will have photos. Promise!
